June 30, 2020 A Statement from Black Hollywood Education Resource Center’s Executive Director John M. Forbes… This is truly A Great Day In Black Hollywood- Sandra Evers-Manly was officially selected as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences! I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this great honor. For more than thirty-three years she has been the driving force in the industry helping African-American and others and in front of and behind the camera. I remember many years ago, she said she wanted to make a difference, and she most certainly has! Sandra continues to help Black filmmakers, students and others behind-the-scenes realize their dreams. Through wise teachings of her mother Mrs. Manly, Sandra shared with me her mom’s philosophy of the letter “L”. In Sandra’s book, “Raised Up by Mrs. Manly and Her L’s”, she has lived and taught us to live by this letter as well. Love Listen Learn Lift Lean Lead Laugh Lift Sandra embodies all of those L’s and more! It has been an absolute honor and pleasure working with her and being part of the BHERC family and watching her great impact and empathy for others. The Academy is gaining more than a great member, but a great leader and change agent. We are proud to congratulate Ms. Evers-Manly on a job well done! What A Great Day In Black Hollywood! Much Love and Respect, John M. Forbes |
