The series is a darkly comedic drama created by Marc Cherry (“Desperate Housewives,” “Devious Maids”), will premiere on Thursday, August 15. 2019. Episodes of WHY WOMEN KILL’s 10-episode first season will be available on demand weekly on Thursdays exclusively for CBS All Access subscribers.

WHY WOMEN KILL details the lives of three women living in three different decades: a housewife in the ‘60s, a socialite in the ‘80s and a lawyer in 2019, each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. The series will examine how the roles of women have changed, but how their reaction to betrayal…has not.

Coppola plays Sheila Mosconi the neighbor of the Stantons from the 1960’s. Did you agree with the wives in the series? And maybe not how they handled the situation but why they did what they did? Coppola laughs, “You see you are talking a New York Italian, so we have our ways of handling things. I play Sheila Mosconi and Sheila has her way of handling things so I agree with every thing they have done. Absolutely. Was it particularly the man’s fault? Coppola explains, “What Marc (the show’s creator), has done is really taken a look at how women have evolved, how we have taken off our aprons and come out of the kitchens and maybe into the boardrooms, but how our reaction to love, heartbreak and betrayal has not changed. So you can take us out of an apron but we are still going to react and feel the same when faced with betrayal.”

Baptiste plays the current 2019, professional lawyer wife in
this tri-decade series. In describing her character, she says, “Being 2019, the
idea was to develop me as being much more complicated then it was in the past
because relationships have changed. For me, knowing that I was in 2019, so
being able to bring this modern aspect to it. I saw was an approach looking at
my relationship and the relationships around me and so how much more complex
they are now. How much more than say our parents or grandparents.”

When these women did what the did, they probably wouldn’t have
done this 50 years ago. So are women nowadays being influenced by the “Me Too”
movement, being independent and all the rest of this stuff going on? Cherry
answers with delight, “The interesting thing about this show is that it takes
place in three different decades. At the end of the 10th episode,
every era has a death. It shows how women have changed over the years but it
also shows how marriage and the sense of betrayal has not changed. So the truth
is, there’s a timelessness to the show. I don’t think it is as effected by
politics as one might think. This plays to a lot of constants about the way
husbands and wives treat each other and the kinds of things that can really
tick people off and we also have some surprises instore. So people will
ultimately be very shocked by the reasons why these women kill when they do.”
Will this scare men out there married or not? Cherry laughs, “You know, there
are good guys and not so good guys and if men haven’t learned the price of
cheating by now, their never going to learn.” Cherry adds, “I think every woman
should make her husband watch this show and he may be singing a different tune
by the end of the ten episodes.”
