The  2019 Pan African Film & Arts Festival

Roared Through LA Again

     It is the largest Black Afrikan Film and Arts Festival in the United States. Every year it delivers the breakthroughs needed for film makers, artisans and the movie fans alike. There are always surprises and promises of big things to come from writers, producers, directors and actors regarding their exciting projects that passed the selection process cut and made it to the big silver screen.

The PAFF was organized by Co-Founders actor Danny Glover, actress Ja’Net DuBois and Executive Director Ayuko Babu and held its first event in 1992. The festival held a myriad of activities including Opening Night at The Directors Guild of America where the film “Amazing Grace” premiered via a celeb red carpet and afterparty.

       Spotlight Screenings were sprinkled throughout the life of the fest along with the regular screenings that had Q&A sessions afterward with the filmmakers, cast and crew. The PAFF Institute presented various Panels and workshops moderated and hosted by industry pros and experts which featured celeb guests.

Film Industry Lectures

     There was a Student Fest featuring select screenings, a Saturday Morning Children’s Festival, a PAFF Spoken Word session that featured top spoken word artists, the PAFF LOL Comedy Night at famed comic and radio host J. Anthony Brown’s J-Spot Comedy Club, Senior Connections with screening for seniors and of course the concluding PAFF 

Afrikan Market Place
     Filmmakers’ Awards Brunch. The festival also included an Afrikan Market Place throughout the Crenshaw Mall where people could purchase Afrikan clothing, jewelry, paintings, artifacts and products of all kinds including books, CD’s, videos and various useful services.



      Film makers in the process of finishing their projects should seriously include entering their film for consideration to the 2020 PAFF. Check their website at www.paff.org
