What will Los Angele look like in the future population wise? In the new Netflix sic-fi cop thriller “Bright,” Tinsel Town is composed of three types of beings i.e., humans who exist with Elves (who are wealthy and live lavishly) and Orcs (who are ugly and live poor in ghettos). Even though the beings /human divide has a new and different ring to it, the same old 6&10 B.S. and dumb stuff still exist – “Racism!” Will there ever be a world without this racism garbage?

Will Smith
plays Daryl Ward, a veteran cop who is only five years away from retirement. He
is partnered with LA’s first ever Orc police officer Nick Jakoby played by Joel Edgerton.
No one on the force wanted to be paired with an Orc including Ward who was
forced to do it. Needless to say, he had to endure with the rookie’s mistakes
on the beat.
When asked about the set of such an unusual film and working in visually
weird environment Smith says. “David (referring to David Ayer the film’s
director), creates a great environment the way he works with actors. Six to
eight weeks out from shooting, he has us all train together which creates this
sort of family environment. We feel like we are a group working together and
not individuals out for ourselves. We’re coming to work, to succeed together,
to feed our families I would add and to teach you from getting lost into the
Hollywood of it. It’s great to work like that.”
With all the movies that Will has done
over the years; we haven’t heard him rapping on the soundtrack to most of them.
Is that something he is going to pursue in the future? Smith laughs, “I’ve been
sniffing around it and getting hyped about it. Its been a minute and I’ve been
foaming in the aftermind so me and Jeff started going out a little bit in the
last six to eight months we’ve been doing something. I just have to find that
lane, find that way back in. It’s a part of my heart, I love it. I make records
all the time. I have a ton of stuff that I’ve made at the house. It’s stuff
that I’m not hyped enough about to feel

comfortable releasing it into the world. I’m just
trying to find that thing that sparks me to get back.”
In
looking at the complexity of racial problems and the situation in the movie
between Elves, Orcs and humans, Smith observes that through the use of fiction
in movies like this one can see signs of a brighter future. When observing the
dichotomy and direction of the current political situation in Washington
compared to the last administration Smith points out, “We had to expect that it
was going to go the other way. But it is going the other way as a purge and as
a cleanse. This is the darkness before the dawn. When that thing swings back to
the other direction, humanity is going to evolve. This is an evolutionary shift
in humanity right now.
