Biig Piig Releases Debut Mixtape Bubblegum

Sold-Out UK & US Tour Kicks Off Next Month with Shows in NY, SF, LA and More

One of BBC Radio 1’s ‘Sound of 2023’ Artists

Biig Piig has dropped her debut mixtape Bubblegum today alongside the incredible new focus track, “In The Dark.” The project also features “Picking Up” (with Deb Never), recent single “This Is What They Meant,” and suitably explosive viral hit “Kerosene.” Her most colorful, confessional, and cathartic body of work thus far, Bubblegum confirms Biig Piig’s growth as an artist and young woman.

Biig Piig   "In The Dark"

This project adds a new chapter to Biig Piig’s incredible story thus far, with her innately adventurous spirit (musically, geographically, and emotionally) exploring themes of self-discovery, longing, and ultimately embracing the unknown. Across Bubblegum, pockets of quiet contemplation are punctured by moments of release from the chaotic night out of “Picking Up” to the combustible lust of “Kerosene” – what emerges is a newfound sense of perspective. “This Is What They Meant”, for instance, is about experiencing a new city, and yourself, through another’s eyes. It’s all tied up for Biig Piig in a playfully surreal aesthetic: “Bubblegum is sweet and nice to look at, but it’s sticky. I like the innocence, but was drawn to the texture — balloony, elastic, stretchy. And it bursts, too. That's what the tape felt like.”

Biig Piig is able to chronicle her journey thus far with rarified clarity. It’s a wild path that has already seen the Irish (via West London and Malaga) artist earn a devoted audience, with over 200 million streams, co-signs ranging from Billie Eilish, Wet Leg to Lil Nas X, and tours alongside the likes of Glass Animals, Jungle, and her own NiNE8 Collective. Blending heady club sounds, complex interiority, and an occasional dance with demons both figurative and literal, Bubblegum chronicles an intense, at times isolated period of self-examination – but like all of Biig Piig’s work, it’s ultimately bound by the potential of human connection.

Biig Piig was recently selected for the prestigious BBC Sound of 2023, and “Kerosene” was just nominated for RTE Choice Song Of The Year last week. She is set to begin her already-sold-out UK and US headline tour in March with festival performances at CRSSD Festival 2023 and Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival.
