"Invisable Life" Pre-Oscar Screening - Film

"Invisible Life" was Brazil's official submission for the "Best Foreign Language film" category at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020. The film was screened in the UN-Certain Regard section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and took the top prize.

"Invisible Life," was adapted from the same name novel written by Martha Batalha. It takes place in 1950's Rio de Janairo among a ridged conservative society where the father rules and his demands are law. Due to taboo incidents that happened within the family, two sisters become separated and live life believing that the other is living out her dreams half a world away.

The film stars Carol Duarte as Euridice and Julia Stockler as Guirda. Both sisters had to weave their way through lies, family secrets, a die-hard rule stickler dad and other obstacles after becoming separated to finally reunite years later. Karim Alnouz was the film's director and delivered a brilliant product to the screen.

The film did have a couple of pretty graphic, in-your-face sex scenes including full frontal male nudity which you never see in the U.S. When asked about it, Alnouz laughs and explained that Americans are more uptight about sex on screen that any country on earth, yet, they have and insatiable appetite for extreme violence and can't seem to get enough.

Getting the party started

The screening was held at the beautiful headquarters of CAA (Creative Artists Agency), in Century City, CA. The after party was a blast with delicious food and drink.
