Jodi Mattinson
Driven To The Top Of Her Game!

Jodi Mattinson Business Mogul
In the cut throat environment of the corporate business world you either have what it takes to survive and win or you don’t and you lose. It doesn’t matter what line of business one is in if they are at the top, successful and making profit, cash money bottom line. Corporate mogul Jodi Mattinson is rich, young, sexy, fine, fun loving and a super sharp expert in the line of work that she runs which is an escort business. Only the self righteous, judgmental, right wing inspired, pompous, moral do-gooders would frown upon what Mattinson does for a living. Whether they like it or not, they must give credit where credit is due. This lady is a runaway, successful dynamo who has literally dominated the competition by having the most successful escort business in the State of Utah – yes Salt Lake City of all ungodly places!  Mattinson is the founder and owner of “Companions Escorts” which is not only the biggest and most successful; it is simply the most professional and the best hands down!

Jodi Mattinson CEO

Mattinson has been labelled a madam, pimp and other titles meant to degrade her but she laughs off her haters. Award winning film/TV director Kourtney Ragland owner of “Most High” Entertainment and Emmy and NAACP Image Award winner, film/TV producer P Frank Williams who brought us the “BET American Gangster” series teamed up and shot a documentary on Mattinson titled “A MADAM’S HEAVEN AND HELL.” It is a compelling behind the scenes look at not only the life of Mattinson and how she got into this line of work but also examines the lives of the women who become escorts, the men who pay for their services and the adventures good and bad of both. The film can be viewed on Vimeo on Demand and by going to

Jodi Mattinson owner of Companions Escorts
Mattinson has come through a multitude of life experiences starting from being a rebellious teenager in a strict Mormon family household where her dad was a police officer. That progressed on to a wild street life and getting married to an abusive husband who beat her which she finally divorced. Mattinson became an escort and after learning the ropes of the biz ventured out and started her own company. She was set up to run afoul of the law for tax issues with the I.R.S. and spent three years in prison. Her lieutenants kept the ship afloat while she was incarcerated. Upon her release she was back in the saddle and has gotten even bigger than before.

What did Mattinson learn most from her prison experience? She says, “Honestly, I learned to love myself. I mean when you spend three years alone pretty much; I did a year in the hole where I had no interaction with anybody. I was in a little 5X10 cell with no windows for one year. I learned a lot about me, how strong I was what I could actually go through, survive and still come out with a level head. I had to read a lot of self help books to get me by. It wasn’t easy. I learned who I can and can’t trust. I learned how people really are when you’re at the bottom. A lot of people are only there when you’re doing good and when shit hits the fan they don’t want to be there for you.”

Major success comes from putting in the work
Mattinson has more than out performed many so-called college degreed Wall Street businessmen in terms of running a business with multi-million dollar profits. Would she consider expanding into to other areas with her skill set? She smiles, “I would love to. It just takes the right opportunity. I’m open minded to anything pretty much as long as the money is right.” Has her parents finally accepted what she does? Again she lights up, “They accepted me years ago when they knew I was going to change this to a positive direction and continue to do this. They accepted it.” And positive is the right word for Mattinson’s “Companions Escorts.” The ladies are under strict guidelines of ethical conduct and abide by all State, County and City laws. They are not hookers by any stretch of the imagination; they are entertainers who provide a fantasy experience for their clients.

Anthony Kelley
Debuts In The Gambler

It is the average actors dream just to get a bit role in their first movie for the experience, exposure and resume credit. Landing a lead role for your first acting job is indeed very rare. Especially if you are paired with a veteran lead superstar actor, the odds are even greater. Well actor Anthony Kelley beat those odds when he won the role of college hoops star Lamar Allen who develops a shady type of relationship with his lit professor Jim Bennett played by Mark Wahlberg. Professor Bennett is an obsessed gambler who gets in too deep with a loan he obtained from the local loan shark godfather. The professor solicits Allen to fix a game to help him out.

Anthony Kelly as Lamar

So what is Kelley’s take on getting the role and how did it happen? He smiles,“It’s a dream come true. My uncle called me about the open casting they were having in Watts and they were looking for real basketball players. I have been pursuing basketball my whole life and I was at a crossroads and was trying to go overseas and was preparing to do a showcase they do every year in July. He called me and told me to come down for the open casting. At first I didn’t want to do it as I am camera shy but I ended up going down there and Sheila Joffre just worked with me for two months 2/3 times a week and went over the lines and played basketball while I recited my lines.”

What were the major hurdles he had to get over? Kelley reflects, “The most difficult thing was trying to portray the right emotion especially in the classroom scene. That scene alone we had the first two days I was on set and I can actually relate to Lamar and what he is going through. The emotion part was the hardest part.”

Anthony Kelly

Being a rookie on the set how was the treatment from the rest of the cast? Kelley laughs, “I didn’t get any pranks. They were just easy to get into character. It was just so simple for Mark to improvise and go right back into topic.´ Actors do come and go so has he formulated a game plan for his career while staying grounded? Kelley says, “Having Mark and Michael by my side coaching me through all this process and telling me to just be patient was a great help. My friends keep me grounded as well.  I try to stay away from doing anything that can sabotage the brand. As far as going out I act as I am normal person and try to be humble and don’t really talk about the movie unless people bring it up.”

Has Kelley received any scripts since his current role and if so, what types are being offered? He’s back to laughing, “I have a movie about a penitentiary in Louisiana. I can’t really talk too much about it. I have been getting roles that are kinda veered away from basketball and athletic stuff. They have been real acting and nitty gritty movies and it’s going to really stretch me to whole another dynamic that I have never done before as far as acting. It’s going to take me out of comfort zone.”

So is professional basketball behind you now? Kelley laments, “No, but right now it’s taken a back seat. I am in love with acting and love portraying another character and playing it back and seeing I did a really good job.” Does this involve taking more acting classes? He lights up, “Michael K sent me a list of 10 different acting classes and acting coaches and I am actually going to go out to New York to work with his acting coach. I feel like she refined him as an actor and didn’t really change him up too much but just shed more light to what he normally does.”

The DVD on “The Gambler” is out now on line and in stores. Will there be any surprises that the on screen movie didn’t have. Kelly suggests that you might see him balling up with Mark as he dunked on him a few times. There are interviews also. As far as scenes that were cut all of his scenes were in there.”

Tackles The Wrath Of The Lazarus Effect!
By Rych McCain/Twitter.com/rychmccain and Facebook

Relativity Media out did themselves on this one. As if it wasn’t enough that the movie “The Lazarus Effect,” was scary, they had the screening at The Hollywood Forever Cemetery located behind Paramount Studios. The evening featured a black carpet for the cast and guest, a haunted maze that we all had to walk through filled with actors portraying ghouls and bloody freaks jumping out at you and food in the Shriner’s hall then to the screening room. It was a different experience for most.

Sahra Bolger as Eva
The film centers on a small group of scientists who accidentally discover a way to bring the dead back to life. Of course there is always someone in the bunch whose ambitions get the most of them and they cause things to get off track. The experiment required a photographer to document everything on film so Eva was hired for the job. Eva is played by Dublin, Ireland native Sarah Bolger. She may best be known from “In America” and “The Spiderwick Chronicles” among some of her other body of work. This soft spoken Irish cutie is a minister of The Eucharist, a position she has held since she was 17 so she has a dedicated serious side.

Without giving away what happens in the movie, this columnist was hoping that Bolger’s character would help save the day given the circumstances that she faces. Bolger laughs saying, “There were a couple of different endings that we had for the film so that was a potential. That was there. Bolger’s character Eva was the youngest one and a non scientist so she endured a lot of put down and insults as just the camera girl. How did Bolger get her head right for this kind of role? She laughs again, “I think what my character had was the reliability of most people with just the fascination of what this project was being able to bring people back from the dead.”

Mark Duplass as Frank and Sarah Bolger as Eva
This movie was shot with very limited sets within a confined area. When Bolger and the rest of the cast would return to the sets after they were changed did they appear scarier or more frightening especially when the actors get back into character? Bolger explains, “It’s harder to be scared because that’s where you eat lunch. That space is where you’re sitting on the sideline while the shot gets set up so it’s harder I think to make that space scarier because it’s small, confined and you’re living there the month and a half that we filmed. So it’s your home, where you play, chat, eat and where you work so it’s really hard to forget all of that. It’s like oh I just took a nap here during lunch so it’s really hard.”

The film was shot in a warehouse in the valley. Bolger lamented, “It was really hot. We all had to gauss and spray ourselves down with water to keep cool and the cast was a good group of friendly people. You also can’t be too light hearted about your day because of the scenes you are doing. I cried so much because there was so much emotion.  I think the real scared has to scare you as well as the audience. I have to feel scared.”

Does her job as an actress affect her daily life? Bolger says, “I’m Irish and my accent has changed. The movies that I do are mostly American and British so I can’t seem to get my thick Irish accent back. Is she American now? Bolger says, “My mom laughs at me when I say things like trunk of the car instead of boot of the car and sidewalk instead of pavement and I swear less.”
