Combining versatile flows and the born confidence of a teenage prodigy, Macei K delivers ruthless flexes with a playful smirk. Since releasing her neon debut single “Straight A’s” at age 6, the Signal/Columbia Records signee from Baton Rouge has cultivated a legion of fans through charismatic raps and a side hustle as a YouTuber with nearly 1 million subscribers. But make no mistake: The music comes first. Macei proves that point with “Copy That,” a pulsing anthem laced with braggadocio and quippy put-downs for would-be haters.

Years before she had a work ethic to be proud of, Macei K - now 16 - was a regular kid in Baton Rouge. As a small child, she remembers area classics  from the likes of Boosie Badazz and Kevin Gates soundtracking car rides with her mother. “I grew up around them,” she says, recalling the days she hung out with Boosie’s son Tootie Raww. Surrounded by those sounds from an early age, it wasn’t long before Macei sought to create songs of her own. At the age of 6, she did

One day a decade ago, Macei gripped a sheet of lyrics her older sister had written for her and recorded “Straight A’s,” a feisty single that was accompanied by a music video shot at her elementary school. Within days, it had racked up tens of thousands of views—and before Macei could complete her times tables, the song became as inescapable as her eventual career path. “Everywhere I went, everybody was singing ‘Straight A’s,’” she says. “It gave me that spark.”

But Macei knows there’s work to do, and that begins with her new music, which she says is the best she’s ever made. With new music comes increased exposure, but Macei isn’t pressed about the extra attention. “Other people’s opinions don’t matter,” she says. “I gotta stay focused no matter what. I just gotta keep going.”
