At PAFF 2023
Sasha Lanes staring JadaPaige as Sasha, is a young
woman fed up with the ghetto, hood conditions of her surroundings in Detroit
and arguing and confusion that comes from being in a very dysfunctional family.
She is finally fed up and embarks on a journey across the countryside on a bus,
trying to escape her past traumas and pains of her family.

Sasha gets
off the bus in San Bernardino, CA., where she meets a man who claims to have a
job for her. He turns out to be a pimp and she flees to LA to her half-sister
Ashanti (Paula Jai Parker) who does not want her around. Of course, Sasha has
no money and nowhere else to go and the drama begins.
This short film was a hit feature at this year’s 2023 Pan African Film Festival. The film’s Co-producer, writer and director Marc Cayce says the scenarios throughout the film were based on his true-life experiences and encounters. The movie shows this by its authentic and realistic feel of life on the street and the true-to-life portrayal of the characters.
It also demonstrates that despite the amount of dysfunction a family may have, there are still ways that the rays of love and bonding can shine through if understanding and kinship are given a chance.
