She Taught Love

   

      SHE TAUGHT LOVE is a contemporary love story starring Queen Charlotte’s Arsema Thomas, alongside Darrell Britt-Gibson who co-stars and penned the original screenplay. The film will premiere in select theaters and on Hulu on September 27th.

     Ever since getting off "The Street," a prestigious cable television series, Frank Cooper (Britt-Gibson) has been coasting through life distracting himself with women, booze and blow, while auditioning to play stereotypical gang members and drug dealers. But the minute he meets Mali Waters (Thomas), a sports agent living for the present, his whole world changes. Despite their own worst instincts, Mali and Frank are inescapably drawn to one another. As Mali is forced to face her own mortality, the clock begins to tick. The two must learn to rely on each other, choosing to love and live for the moment, even if that's all they get.

      When questioned about how she got involved with this project, Arsema Thomas responds, “Right now its like before She Taught Love and after She Taught Love because now everything has been so different after receiving the script. I was unemployed, feeling that the industry had turned its back on me, the moment that it didn’t let me in. It had been the depths of the strike, and so I got the script and realized that; I don’t know,, something there is this beautiful, I think its a Jean Jordan quote about ‘staying sane until people create the space for you to be happy’. And I think that’s what I was waiting for when I got that script. It was just keeping it together until something that really was about furthering the narrative of Black women. Something that was about putting us on a pedestal rather than using us as a scapegoat. Until something like that came.”

     Darrell Britt-Gibson not only was the lead actor, but he also wrote the script as well. When quizzed about how it ended, he laughs and tells a quick story about how his mother read the script and didn’t like how it ended being a special circumstance plot. He pondered on it and ended up agreeing with her and changed the ending for a better feel. The film is a rare look at a positive Black love relationship minus many of the goofy ghetto stereo types.

Meagan Good Steers Serious Delivery In Terry McMillian Presents “Forever” For Lifetime

 

       Terry McMillian needs no introduction in the literary and film worlds. Her mega best-selling novels that have transcended into smash box office big screen hits, have made her a living icon. Her Midas touch has given book and movie fans classics such as “Waiting To Exhale,” “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” and “Girls Trip,” to name some.

     McMillian’s latest offering is “Forever,” starring Meagan Good (“Divorce In The Black”, “Think Like A Man”), and Taye Diggs, (“Guiding Light,” “All American”). Good and Diggs also served as co-executive producers. Other credits include Charles Murray, director, Autumn Federici, producer, and Bart Baker, writer. The film premieres on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 8PM ET/ 7PM CT on the Lifetime Network as Terry McMillian Presents.

     In the movie, Johnnie (Diggs), returns home from a military combat tour of duty to be rudely served divorce papers as soon as he steps off the bus. He is in a mental head spin as he tries to figure out what’s next. One day he is pulled over for speeding by a very attractive female police officer named Carlie (Good) whom he is immediately attracted to. They run into each other again at a restaurant and sparks begin to fly.

"Forever"

     There are two problems, however. Johnny has doubts about getting back into a relationship so soon after his divorce and Carlie has three daughters. When Johnnie first meets the girls, of course, the oldest is the least resistant to change and accepting Johnny as a possible stepdad. The emotional rollercoaster ride begins, and the movie stays interesting until the end.

     Good especially turns in an exceptional dramatical performance navigating the rocky waters between her new man and her daughters. Diggs is also a great counter. The girls Tessa (Chloe Ellis), Courtney (Madison Griggs), and Leslie (Leesie Pinto) kept the drama going full speed throughout the film. Johnnie’s best friend Levi (Jeremy Urann) added his share of spice as well.

     On the real side, as good as this movie is, this film is from a woman’s viewpoint for obvious reasons. In this era of “Me Too” feminism, and “Sprinkle, Sprinkle” that has created the male backlash of “Red Pill,” “MGTOW,” and “Drizzle, Drizzle; male viewers may see Jonnie as a simp hooking up with and marrying a baby momma with three girls. This film will no doubt raise interesting discussions.

       When Good first got the script to this project and saw the name Terry McMillian attached to it, what was her reaction? She lights up, “McMillian is a legend. So, to have any opportunity to work with her in any capacity to me is fulfilling a full circle moment. I’ve been watching her movies since I was a teenager, the impact and the influence. Yeah, in any capacity, it’s a blessing because of what she’s been able to accomplish and the way she has shown up in the world and impact it for many generations for women in general and empowered us.”

     Good continued, “Especially Black women to look into the mirror and see our worth, see our value, see the sky is not even the limit for us to be determined and be rebellious in the right circumstances. And not allow ourselves to be called emotional for having feelings or being called a bitch for being strong or whatever it is. So just the way she has been unapologetic about her stories or lead characters. For me that was something I wanted to align with and having the opportunity to do that was pretty incredible.”

Dia Dash Delivers A convincing and Powerful Performance Worthy of An Emmy Nomination In “Sister Wife Murder” for Lifetime.

  

     

     

     Dia Nash is the lead role star of the Lifetime Movie “Sister Wife Murder.” Nash delivers a mesmerizing, Emmy Award worthy performance as Chloe, who becomes the third wife of a bigamist preacher. As always, things start off peachy but soon spiral out of control the wrong way.

     Even though she is young, Nash has been in the game for a minute. She recently recurred in Ryan Murphy's Netflix series Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and ABC's The Rookie: Feds. Nash's guest starring roles include CBS's The Neighborhood, Netflix's Never Have I Ever, Freeform's Good Trouble, and Comedy Central's Reno 9-1-1. Nash has also tapped into her singing and songwriting talents to release a single, “Dance To The Rhythm” that developed a viral following.

   What was Nash’s impression when she first read the script of her character getting involved in a polygamous marriage situation? She laughs and says, “well I know that it is common in some areas. Some people do have more than one wife. Personally, I wouldn’t do that, but I know that it happens, not too crazy but a little strange.”

    After reading the script, how did Nash decide to act out the role” She responds, “When I did my audition, I did the best I could. Then every time I did a scene, I would bug my director and asked what’s my motivation. And I would just try to do that.” When working on the set, how does Nash fit in with her fellow actors? She explains, “I think like quick before (shooting the scene), I kind of want to work through this with the person I’m in scene with. Let’s do it a few times to see how it flows. It’s kind of fast pace. You don’t have an hour; you have five minutes. So, you got to get to it.”

  

  

     Is Nash treated or looked at differently being the youngest daughter of Emmy Award winning actress Niecy Nash? She smiles, “If they look at me differently, they haven’t let me know. I don’t wear it on my T shirt like this is my mom. Maybe if they look at my face, they might know. It’s kind of a dead giveaway.” Nash has two other siblings who are into the arts as well. She lights up when speaking about her family saying “Everyone is creative. It’s the household that we grew up in. We would have talent shows and make each other laugh. It was nothing out of the ordinary to do silly or creative things with each other.” Nash’s future is bright. She definitely has the acting chops to do bigger and better projects.
