Women of Color Unite and the JTC List was founded by TV/film producer Cheryl L. Bedford. The JTC List was named after Bedford's mother, Joan Theresa Curtis who was a political activist throughout her entire life, standing up for equality and issues that affected race and human rights until her death in 2016. The JTC List was designed to make it easy for talented and skilled women of color in the industry from all over the world to join and be exposed to the networks, studios and production companies for consideration with the overall goal of getting them hired in their respective areas of expertise. In just one year, the group has grown to nearly 500 women of color and has been very successful in getting the ladies employed and into writing programs.

The gala sponsored by Viacom, CBS Diversity and Riboli Family of San Antonio Winery. Honorees include: legendary actress Marla Gibbs, producer Effie T. Brown (Dear White People) and the Holly Shorts Film Festival.

“Why Women Kill"

Celebrates with A Lavish Blue Carpet Premiere

CBS All Access celebrated its new original series WHY WOMEN KILL, with a lavish Blue Carpet Premiere held at the beautiful Wallis Annenberg Center for The Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.

L-R Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Ginnifer Goodwin & Lucy Liu

The series is a darkly comedic drama created by Marc Cherry (“Desperate Housewives,“Devious Maids”), will premiere on Thursday, August 15. 2019.  Episodes of WHY WOMEN KILL’s 10-episode first season will be available on demand weekly on Thursdays exclusively for CBS All Access subscribers.

Jack Davenport

Adam Ferrera

WHY WOMEN KILL details the lives of three women living in three different decades: a housewife in the ‘60s, a socialite in the ‘80s and a lawyer in 2019, each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. The series will examine how the roles of women have changed, but how their reaction to betrayal…has not.

WHY WOMEN KILL stars Lucy Liu, Ginnifer Goodwin and Kirby Howell-Baptiste. The cast includes Jack Davenport, Sam Jaeger, Reid Scott, Alexandra Daddario, Sadie Calvano, Leo Howard, Alicia Coppola and Katie Finneran. The series will be produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. Creator Marc Cherry will serve as executive producer alongside Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo and Acme Productions’ Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis. Marc Webb will also executive produce and is set to direct the series premiere and two additional episodes.

Alicia Coppola
Alicia Coppola – Sheila Mosconi

Coppola plays Sheila Mosconi the neighbor of the Stantons from the 1960’s. Did you agree with the wives in the series? And maybe not how they handled the situation but why they did what they did? Coppola laughs, “You see you are talking a New York Italian, so we have our ways of handling things. I play Sheila Mosconi and Sheila has her way of handling things so I agree with every thing they have done. Absolutely. Was it  particularly the man’s fault? Coppola explains, “What Marc (the show’s creator), has done is really taken a look at how women have evolved, how we have taken off our aprons and come out of the kitchens and maybe into the boardrooms, but how our reaction to love, heartbreak and betrayal has not changed. So you can take us out of an apron but we are still going to react and feel the same when faced with betrayal.”

Kirby Howell-Baptiste
Kirby Howell-Baptiste – Taylor Harding

Baptiste plays the current 2019, professional lawyer wife in this tri-decade series. In describing her character, she says, “Being 2019, the idea was to develop me as being much more complicated then it was in the past because relationships have changed. For me, knowing that I was in 2019, so being able to bring this modern aspect to it. I saw was an approach looking at my relationship and the relationships around me and so how much more complex they are now. How much more than say our parents or grandparents.”

Marc Cherry
Marc Cherry – The Show’s Creator/Writer
When these women did what the did, they probably wouldn’t have done this 50 years ago. So are women nowadays being influenced by the “Me Too” movement, being independent and all the rest of this stuff going on? Cherry answers with delight, “The interesting thing about this show is that it takes place in three different decades. At the end of the 10th episode, every era has a death. It shows how women have changed over the years but it also shows how marriage and the sense of betrayal has not changed. So the truth is, there’s a timelessness to the show. I don’t think it is as effected by politics as one might think. This plays to a lot of constants about the way husbands and wives treat each other and the kinds of things that can really tick people off and we also have some surprises instore. So people will ultimately be very shocked by the reasons why these women kill when they do.” Will this scare men out there married or not? Cherry laughs, “You know, there are good guys and not so good guys and if men haven’t learned the price of cheating by now, their never going to learn.” Cherry adds, “I think every woman should make her husband watch this show and he may be singing a different tune by the end of the ten episodes.”
